To collect our latest three points, we had to make two trips and score four goals. Despite the inconvenience caused by bad weather, the Nova Gorica project was a resounding success.

“This was a tough away game against an opponent that again proved they are a strong team. In the past, we had some difficulties here, but this time we did well. At one point during the match, we were struggling going forward and creating chances as the home side crammed the midfield, leaving us little room to work with. But then, we switched things up, got the ball to our striker and scored twice when the opponent was unprepared. In the second half, there were a few bad decisions from the referee, which made us a bit nervous, but we kept our cool. The crucial point of the game was when Handanovič saved the penalty. On top of that, we were very efficient up front,” is how the coach described the events that took place on Tuesday afternoon in Nova Gorica.

Our efficiency was underlined by four goals, each more spectacular than the next. Luka Zahović’s magnificent goal for the final result of 4-2 was the icing on the cake.
“The forwards were very good. Novaković provided three assists, Zahović and Vršič scored two goals each and each goal was a sight to behold. But the fourth one was really special. It was a touch of class, scored at precisely the right moment.”

Looking at the league table after the 23rd matchday is even more pleasurable than before, as we now have a six-point lead at the top.
“We are very pleased about that. We are up by six points and have a better head-to-head record. But there are still quite a few matches to go. We want to increase our lead, keep playing the way we are playing and stay as focused as we are at the moment.”

We will face our next challenge on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. We are returning to Ljudski vrt full of positive energy and with a big motive.
“The encounters with Aluminij are always very demanding. The quality speaks in our favour, but they are a team that really doesn’t suit us. The boys know what they’ll be up against. They know where they must improve and I’m positive that, this time, we’ll show everything we’ve got. We will have a bit less time to prepare due to the last match being postponed, but it should be enough,” said Darko Milanič.
