After a great group-stage run in the autumn, it was time to return to Budapest, where the team coached by Milan Žurman picked up where they left them off.
Our U17 team is taking part in the international Future Talents Cup, a 16-team competition, which kicked off with a group stage in October. Our team was grouped together with Sturm, Slovan Bratislava and Wisla and managed to qualify for the knock-out stage. In today’s quarter-final match, they won against Partizan Belgrade. After regular time of two 35-minute halves, the score was level at 1-1. The Belgrade team took the lead from a spot kick in the 22nd minute. Nino Kukovec scored the equaliser in the 32nd minute. The game went to penalties and our talented youngsters kept their nerve and won with a score of 7-6. Our penalty scorers were Horvat, Pirtovšek, Kolmanič, Kukovec, Frešer, Šlamberger and Džankić, and our keeper Jurca saved one of Partizan’s efforts. NK Maribor U17 played in the following line-up: Jurca, Šlamberger, Strah, Pirtovšek, Kolmanič, Grajfoner, Mutavčić (51’ Džankić), Dobaj (46’ Žugelj), Matko (61’ Frešer), Horvat, Kukovec.
The semi-final match against Rijeka, who eliminated Dinamo Minsk with 4-0, will take place on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
